There are around thirteen gates of Lahore. And probably this is the reason why Lahore is known as the ‘Walled City of Lahore’. The different gates of Lahore includes Akbari Gate, Bhati Gate, Delhi Gate, Kashmiri Gate, Lohari Gate, Masti Gate, Mochi Gate, Mori Gate, Roshnai Gate, Shahalmi Gate, Shairanwala Gate, Taxali Gate, and Yakki Gate. These gates were there in the city until nineteenth century when the British government demolished all of them. Only the Roshnai gate was spared.

After independence and partition, the government of Pakistan rebuilt these gates in to bring back the original glory and beauty of the city. However, the Delhi Gate and Lohari Gate were not built. In fact, during the riots of 1947, Shahalmi gate was burnt to ground. At present, there are only six gates that are still in their magnificent structure.
