National Parliament of Pakistan termed as Majlis-e-Shoora in Urdu, is one of the major government buildings in Pakistan. The Parliament of Pakistan is a bicameral federal set up consisting of the National Assembly and the Senate. The Upper House is known as Senate and the lower house is called the National Assembly. The President of Pakistan plays an important role in the National Assembly. The president can exercise his authority and power in certain matters. The President can dismiss the National Assembly with permission from the Supreme court and declare for new elections. There are three hundred and forty members in National Assembly or Lower House of Pakistan. Two hundred and seventy two members are chosen by direct election. The members are elected by the people through multi party election held every five years. The leader from the largest party in National Assembly can be selected as a prime minister during election.

The constitution of the Senate or the Upper House is to be found in the Article 59 of the constitution. There are hundred members in the Senate or Upper House of Pakistan. Out of these eighteen members are women. The members of the Senate are elected on the basis of Article 59 of the constitution. The President of Pakistan doesnot have the authority to dissolve a Senate.
