The President of Pakistan plays an important role in the National Assembly. The president can exercise his authority and power in certain matters. The President can dismiss the National Assembly with permission from the Supreme court and declare for new elections. The constitution of the National Assembly is mentioned in the Article 51[1] of the constitution.
There are three hundred and forty members in National Assembly or Lower House of Pakistan. Two hundred and seventy two members are chosen by direct election. According two the law of Pakistan there should be at least twenty percent women members in the National Assembly. Of the three hundred and forty two members in National Assembly there are seventy two women members. Ten seats are kept reserved fro the minority communities. The Speaker presides over the National Assembly or Lower House. The speaker plays the role of President in the absence of the President and the Chairman of the Senate. The members are elected by the people through multi party election held every five years. The leader from the largest party in National Assembly can be selected as a prime minister during election.
The constitution of the Senate or the Upper House is to be found in the Article 59 of the constitution. There are hundred members in the Senate or Upper House of Pakistan. Out of these eighteen members are women. The members of the Senate are elected on the basis of Article 59 of the constitution. The President of Pakistan doesnot have the authority to dissolve a Senate.
