Islamabad is famous for the Faisal Mosque and the National Monument, Pakistan. Both the edifices are well known for their exquisite architecture and immense size. The National Monument in Islamabad, Pakistan is a monument of Pakistan that beautifully represents Pakistan’s four provinces and three territories. This page by Islamabadlahore.com offers you several interesting facts about the National Monument of Pakistan in Islamabad which is one of the best tourist attractions in Islamabad. | |
The construction of National Monument, Pakistan started after the Earth Breaking Ceremony held by the Pakistani President on May 25, 2004. A jury of experienced and talented architects was formed to select the best monument design from twenty submitted designs. Finally, the design submitted by Mr. Arif Masoud got selected as the best one, and he won a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000. The design of Pakistan’s National Monument represents a blooming flower shape. Pakistan’s progress as a rapidly advancing country is symbolized in this blooming flower shaped construction. Initially, it was decided to pay a tribute to the unsung heroes of Pakistan, later, it was designed to reflect Pakistan’s culture and civilization, including the story of the Pakistan Movement.
The four main petals of the monument represent the four Pakistani provinces of NWFP, Sindh, Punjab and Baluchistan. The remaining three smaller petals represent Pakistan’s tribal areas, Kashmir and the Northern areas. The star at the center of the flower and the crescent, along the inner walls of the petals, symbolizes the star and crescent of the Pakistani National flag. Expensive reddish granite marble is used for the monument’s construction. The four large petals stand for the united people of Pakistan who stand shoulder to shoulder in all situations to protect the Motherland. The metallic crescent will bear the inscriptions with the sayings of Quaid-i-Azam and poetry of Allama Iqbal. The glistening star in the center will be surrounded by a water body that will add more to its beauty. At night, the monument is gorgeously lit.
